Minneapolis City Council Member Lisa Bender Endorses Ilhan Omar for State Representative in District 60-B

State Representative 60B

April 28, 2016 MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Minneapolis City Council Member Lisa Bender recently announced that she is endorsing Ilhan Omar for State Representative in District 60-B. She joins her colleagues Council Member Alondra Cano and Andrew Johnson.

“I had the opportunity to work with Ilhan Omar at City Hall when she was an Senior Policy Aide to Council Member Andrew Johnson. She is a talented leader and I am very proud to endorse her for the Minnesota State House. Her strong showing at her DFL senate district convention a few weeks ago is a testament to Ilhan's hard work, organizing skills and ability to connect with constituents across her district and I know those will translate into effective governing when she is elected.”

“I am honored to receive Council Member Bender’s endorsement,” said Omar. “I know Lisa is committed to creating a sustainable city that works for people at all stages of life with strong schools, good jobs and a healthy environment. This is an interest of mine as well. I believe that by engaging the diverse members of our community, we will make our district, and our city, more prosperous and equitable.”

Ilhan, a progressive DFL activist, educator and policy analyst, is the Director of Policy and Initiatives for the Women Organizing Women (WOW) Network, which works to engage and empower East African women to take civic leadership roles and see themselves as leaders within their communities. She lives in the West Bank neighborhood of Minneapolis with her husband and three children.
