The Omnibus Transportation bill will have devastating effects on communities across Minnesota. Transportation isn’t always the first thing we think about when we think about equity, but it is a make-or-break expense for many families. A 40 percent reduction in Metro Transit bus services, as House Republicans propose, means that students without cars won’t be able to bus to grocery stores on the weekend. Those commuting to and from the suburbs for work might have to quit their jobs. The elderly, disabled, and those who depend on their local bus route won’t be able to get around.
