What do I mean when I say "It's time for Ilhan"?

Dear Friend,

What do I mean when I say “It’s time for Ilhan”?

Let me start by telling you what I don’t mean: It is not about the number of years the incumbent has served in the Minnesota legislature, nor is it about age.

For me, it is about the kind of leadership and experience I believe we need at this moment in time, in our district, and as a voice in our state legislature. In these areas, Ilhan Omar offers distinctly different gifts to address the urgent challenges we face as a community:

  • Ilhan offers cross-cultural fluency and a proven ability to build bridges between people in a district that has changed dramatically. She has brought together students and other young people, new Americans, people of color, and, yes, more “traditional” voters like me (Euro-American, middle class, and getting on in years) around a vision of who we can be if we come together as a community.
  • Ilhan offers leadership that is based on authentic on-the-ground engagement with people. She believes that Senate District 60B is rich in people who have great skills, life experience, and knowledge that need to be tapped and mobilized to address the challenges we face. You will rarely find a better and more responsive listener or someone more committed to drawing on the wisdom of others.
  • Ilhan understands “the urgency of now” and will be a passionate and informed voice in partnership with all of us.

It's time for Ilhan! I hope you'll join me in supporting her for State Representative in 60B by casting a vote for her in the primary on August 9 and contributing what you can to keep her campaign moving forward.
